Typing
I have an inspiron 9300 brand new 29APR05 with WindowsXP media edtion
I cannot type continuosly. The cursor goes away after only a few characters and I have to bring back the cursor with a touch pad left click. Dell does not even respond to this problem.

I was also having a problem where the input cursor would move somewhere else in the document and I just realized that I was accidentally grazing the touch pad. Now, I'm trying to find out how to disable the touch pad (no BIOS option for 9300)) when using an external mouse. Note: MS Intellisense software for their wireless optical mouse 2.0 does not have a "touch pad" tab for this purpose.steve_in_plano

Perhaps if you bothered to actually read my question you would see that there is NO TOUCHPAD tab in the Mouse dialog window. That's the point - with Intellisense software installed there does not appear a way to disable the touchpad from the Control Panel/Mouse application. Please don't suggest that I uninstall Intellisense (for use with MS Wireless optical mouse) as that is not really a helpful solution. This is a problem that Dell & Microsoft need to resolve....maybe a new BIOS or better Intellisense software.- Sorry for all the grief I apparently caused you.As I understand this board, It is a way for users to help other users. I do not work for Dell or Microsoft. I was simply trying to give you my experience. My machine has a Synaptics Pointing Device v7.1011. and I can disable it.I sincerely apologize for my failure to note that there was no tab to disable your touchpad. My reading of your question was too hasty.You have decided that the answer is one for Dell and/or Microsoft. I hate to suggest anything further, but if you believe it is their problem, you might try contacting them. Just a suggestion...I am sure others on this board will be able to give you better suggestions.

You might want to seriously consider stopping your posting as it seems there is no real information that you can provide, at least with regard to this issue.
I have contacted both Dell and Microsoft about the touchpad problem. However, does that preclude me from posting a question so that some INFORMED community member might offer a legitimate solution? And it this not also a forum that Dell employees will contribute? I think it is.
As of this time, I have completely wiped the operating system and installed a fresh copy of Windows Xp Pro, along with Dell tools and drivers....yes, even the ALPS GlidePoint. However, there is no such option on the "touch pad' tab of the Mouse Properties window for aut-disable of the touchpad when an external mouse is attached. The Dell electronic manual provided with my 9300 laptop is incorrect for this hardware, as there is no auto-disable option as described.
Hopefully, a Dell forum support person will have some real information on this issue.

If it is still under warranty, call them and tell them you want to ship it back and have them fix it.
You simpy cannot type in a normal way.
