What do these diagnostic error msg mean

I bought a 7500  from dell auction. I ran the
complete diagnostic program when i received the computer. All the test only
indicated two failures and they did not seem to be in a critical area
but I wanted to know what they meant and if there needs to be a fix.
Below are the two failure msgs.

Ess Maestro 2E Audio- Software reset test
Status:Fail Status Code: DOS DDG-D Audio 010 106
Device: Ess Maestro 2E Audio Test:Software Reset Test
Release: 1004 Module: GenAudio-ESSAudio
MSG: Primary codec is not ready

ESS Maestro 2E Audio- Register Test
Status: Fail Status Code: DOS DDG-D Audio 030 106
Device ESS Maestro 2E Audio Test: Register-Test
Release: 1004 Module: GENAudio-ESSAudio
Msg: Primary codec is not ready.

thanks

Maybe this is more critical than I thought, I've been so busy trying (unsucessful) to get the LAN card to work that I didn't check the sound. Discovered no sound out of the computer.

In the sound folder in device manager it shows a driver for the ESS Maestro2e PCI AudioDrive (WDM), I downloaded and installed the current driver off the dell site. Is this what you meant by the dell specific driver.

I tried to play a audio cd rom the cd shows playing (in cd player) but no sound. I also assigned the microsoft sound to startup and exit but neither play.

    update

Please disregard this thread I have moved this post to the audio section as I have a different problem.

    thanks
