I got 2709W monitor month ago and after some use I started to notice more and more blinking pixels. First I thought that my 8800GT went mad, but after more testing I've found that it must be the monitor (I tried it with lower resolution, but blinking pixels don't scale up. They're still as small as with 1920x1200 resolution) Usually the problem arrives after 10-15 minutes use depending on how bright the display is. It seems to be some kind of warming issue. The panel can get quite hot after hours of use.
Usually it is a red pixel blinking semi-random on screen, but I've seen yellow ones too. Sometimes there are more than ten of them. If I move cursor or a window next to it, blinking disappears. So it seems blinking depends on a color combination next to it. Also it happens only on slow moving screen and never with movies. I've seen it couple of times when playing Civ4, but if I scroll it's gone.
Is this something that could be fixed with firmwire update or should I return the monitor?
I just got mine and it was shipped to work. I plugged it in to an available machine to check it out and I noticed several blinking pixels on some high contrast graphics in ads on the internet. They seemed rather random and would go away when I moved on to another page, but they showed up pretty frequently. That night I took the monitor home and hooked it up to my PC there and played on it for a good 7 hours (web surfing, games, movies, etc) and didn't notice a single blinking pixel the whole night. You could certainly have a different problem, but I think mine had to do with either the PC I was plugged into or the cable being used, or possibly even some sort of issue that was fixed by tweaking the color settings (when I saw the problem, all settings were at default, but at home I adjusted brightness, color and contrast). I'd certainly suggest trying it on a different machine or video card (or maybe even an updated vid driver?) and maybe even try a different DVI cable. I'm not really sure what causes that problem, but it's possible it isn't the monitor at fault.
I do have a little trouble getting the OSD menu to pop up though, it seems like the upper buttons are pretty sensitive, but the lowest button isn't. I can't get it to come on with my finger tip, I have to press my whole finger tip flat against the bezel. Do you have that problem? Or is it just me? Aside from that though, I love this monitor, the picture is outstanding.
i have the EXACT same problem on my dell 3007 and you said it seems to be a warm up issue.
mine occurs about 10-15 mins after power on, and the screen blinks out completely for 0.5 seconds or so.
the dancing or "blinking" pixels do correlate to the colors around it because i noticed it only happens when there is a dark area in high contrast picture... i have yet to catch it blinking or dancing when the screen is completely black.
you can see the problem here:

It has happened to 2 of my Dell Exchanges now... There are no dead pixels and no backlight bleeding on my screen... I am so disappointed at this issue.
i can repeat this problem on 2 dell 3007 and 2 different computers w/ 2 different video cards
