Backing up data from application

Hello,

we're looking for a solution to backup MySQL databases on *nix directly to tape without the need of extra disk space for dump files. I thought about a solution using pipes (e.g. mysqldump | save ...) or something like that as there's no Networker Module for MySQL. But I cannot find anything related in the docs. Does anyone have an idea or use such a technique?

Best regards.

I'm not sure save would support it, but I never tried that either.

You have of course also opened an RFE with EMC.

If enough people raise the need for a module for MySQL then they should get the message and then may be develop it.

In the mean time, if think you are stuck with B2D2T.

Actually this particular database is going to be ported to another RDBMS (with Networker Module available) very soon. Hence, opening a RFE would not help me further as I'm looking for a temporary solution.

BTW: Thanks for your input IKP. But I'm not looking for a Networker Module written specific for one application but I'd like Networker to be able to backup piped data of any kind...

    regards

... which is again good RFE candidate.
