7.4.4 or 7.5.1 should be really answered by the need to go these versions; 7.5.1 is better if you have vmware or need for some new features. Otherwise 7.4.4 will be fine.

We to are in the process of upgrading our 7.4.3 to 7.5.1 because it is recommended by EMC support because 7.4.4/7.5.1 resolves a lot of nagging bugs(wonder if that is true or not).

We upgraded from 7.2.1 to 7.4.3 last January and already after 4 months of operations I have to upgrade already.

My take is upgrade to the latest production version so that you don't have to be stuck like I am to upgrade continually.

But again if alot of people have problems with it I would stick with my nagging bugs that I know are there than to upgrade and be faced with new bugs.

We have Upgraded from 7.3.2 to 7.5 Build 189.

We have 2X storage Nodes. 1X Server 1X Failover Node & 2X ESL Jukeboxes hosting 12 Drives.

Our environment is moving quickly to incorporate more VMware hosts and is running on a WIN2k3 environment. I have had VERY LITTLE problem with 7.5 and rate it as a good release. The new functionality is welcomed and the layout of the VMware console is great.

What i did love about the upgrade was the ability to push the client packes out to the clients from the server. This really helped with the time frame of mthe project.
I really have no complaints.

Is Networker able to push to new clients or just to push an update to already known clients?

Yes and no. It would be easier, but it would be also potential security issue that in enterprise environment I would not allow. I believe with Windows you could use RIS and with UNIX systems creating scripted package and deploying it with ssh could do the trick.

That's something I think EMC has to improve.
It would be such an timesaver if it was possible to push client-software to new client.

Major version releases do not seem to be what they used to be... Although I am yet to install it 7.5 seems to be a minor upgrade with some new functionality tacked on, mainly for Avamar; I would expect that this is what we will continue to see for the near future. Much of the improvements over the last few versions have delivered improvements in stability for the newer daemons, particularly the NMC and nsrlcpd. I would suggest if you are not using any of the new functionality to go to 7.5.1; if the new functionality is of interest it may be worth holding back for potential bugs to be found and fixed....

Yes we have upgraded and the process we took was to install any new clients with the 7.5.1 client software for compatability. I then did the storage nodes and then the server. I created a repository and then pushed out to all the existing clients. This had success and failure so i had to do some manually.

Remember to backup the NSR directory first.
and if you to to 7.5 first and then 7.5.1 you have to uninstall the management mmc but remember to keep the management DB and then install the management mmc again.
