Read Open Error

I'm using Networker 7.2.1 and have a HP Ultrium 920 drive with LTO Ultrium-3 tapes. Backups have been working fine for some time but now the device is showing 'read open error: drive status is' (nothing after the 'is') if I try to mount/eject/label. I've tried putting in new tapes with no joy.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Could be few things, but to cut off most of them do:
    - unload tapes if something is loaded in drives
    - stop NW (make sure no backup or restores are running)
    - do rm /nsr/tmp/*
    - reset library at library level and wait for library to come online
    - start NW

If you still get an error after that let us know.

This error used to come when the SCSI ID of the drive changes.
If that is the case, try deleting the device and configuring a new one.

    HI*,

it's also possible that the LTO Drive is defect. We uses IBM LTO. After 2 years the Drives will get this failure.

    Hi,

Read Open Error can also happen due to drive re-ordering. Also make ensure that RSM is disabled on the library and drives.
