tuning filesystem backup

hi,

firstly we are getting oracle backup to disk with rman. then getting backup pieces to legato as filesystem backup. is it possible to decrease backup time by multiplexing and using more than one device ? i know if i use rman when sending to tape, it is possible by increasing channels.

thanks.

The answer is yes even I do not get why do you use file system backup option for backup when you can use RMAN with NetWorker.

    hi,

we used to get backup from disk to tape with RMAN. But when we try to restore files to disk with another location, we failed. we don't want to restore the database just backup files. so we choose this method.

the way of using rman or filesystem multiplexing can solve my problem.

    thanks.

I really don't see why restoring should fail as that seems to be basic operation I believe... or are you saying that RMAN doesn't support that in your case?

Well, with rman you would do something that is called copy database (or duplicate database) operation and that's handled by RMAN in very nice manner. I have seen it in use several times, but I do not recall if raw devices were in use or not (I think RMAN doesn't care at that point).

in fact there is another man on the database side. i don't much about rman. according to he said, he wanted to restore backup pieces to another location in disk.(by the way oracle uses raw device) so that he could transfer them to another server by ftp and restore there. but he couldn't to that. if it is a simple operation, i'll be happy if you tell me the way.
