PowerConnect 2716 web interface problem

I have a very odd problem with the PC2716.

Using the 2716 default settings, switching it to managed mode, I plug my laptop into port 16, change my laptop NIC to 192.168.2.5 broadcast 192.168.2.0, then point my browser (Firefox) to 192.168.2.1 which brings up the web interface. I login with admin, no password, submit and everything is fine.

From the interface I then change the 2716's IP to 192.168.13.35, without changing the admin login/password. Then I change my laptop NIC to the same 192.168.13.xx network.

Again I point the browser to the 2716 web interface, the login screen comes up, I enter the admin login with blank password and submit, the page submits, goes somewhere, then bounces right back to the login page. No message about incorrect login or password.

If I enter an incorrect login or password I get a message saying so, which rules out that I'm entering the wrong l/p.

Any idea what might be happening here?

Here's an update: I unplugged all connections, including uplink, and waited a bit. Then plugged connection to the laptop, reset the browser, pointed it at 192.168.13.35. It brought up the web interface and I was finally able to get in without being bounced back to the login screen. I attached the uplink connection, closed the browser window, tried again. This time it booted me back to the login screen every time I logged in. I detached the uplink connection, it's still doing it, bouncing me to the login screen. Disconnected everything again, waited 10 minutes, tried the same procedure again. This time it's still bouncing me back to the login screen. I don't know what is going on here but something sure is buggy...

@zArOne Hi, I bought today a PC-2724 Switch and I have exacly the same problems like you. I tried with Firefox V2 (+Windows Vista) and have the same problems. IE7 (+Windows Vista) works better, but not perfect. Then I tried with my Laptop (IE6 and Windows XP), no problem at all. I guess there is something wrong with the javascipt of the new browsers. I tried to modify the settings, anyway no success. Still surching for a workaround. The switch firmware is from 2005 and a new one is not available. May another firmware from Dell is necessary. I guess. Any comments? Regards Rudi

I've been checking it with Firefox from both Linux and Windows XP. Also from IE on XP. I have the same problems from both platforms.

I think it's storing the browser sessionID and retaining it for a long time. What may be happening is that when I close the browser and redo it, since the browser sessionID is different than what it has on record, and since the login page is for some reason not updating the record with my new sessionid, the subsequent web pages after the login do not recognize me as authenticated.

When I get out of the OpenManage interface by clicking "Log Out", it seems to properly clear the record so I can log back in even if I close the browser. So, this hypothesis seems to be proven.

The manuals should have a big warning, "you must log out properly in order for things to work."

I've wasted hours just figuring out this lame problem. This needs to be brought to the attention of the OpenManage team.

I agree, I am having this problem using Firefox and IE7 on Vista. The only way I can get into the switch is to go to a XP machine. It is time for a Firmware update, maybe one that also adds support for LLTD.
