PowerConnect 6448

I have a Sonicwall NSA 2400 and plan to setup a vlan to configure the WiFi in my network.

I need some help setting up the vlan. I have gotten the sonicwall interface setup to show the vlan i want. So internally i am using 10.1.1.x as my LAN and i want 10.1.10.x as my wifi network. I have setup the vlan 10 on the sonicwall.

The question i have is how do i get this vlan to populate on say ports 37 - 48 and leave the remaining ports as the default 10.1.1.x?? I would also like the wifi to be able to talk to the main LAN.

Lastly, i have three 6448s all of which are connect to each other via the xg fiber ports on the back. I would like to be able to assign ports on those as well to designate VLAN 10 so i can plug wifi into the nearest switch and get them to work properly.

To me this sounds pretty easy, but I cannot for the life of me get it right...

At this time any direct questions about the SonicWall NSA 2400 may be directed to the SonicWall forum.

Above is an image showing how to connect the 62xx switches in a stack.

NOTE: If you are installing a stack of switches, you need to assemble and cable the stack before powering up and
configuring it. When a stack is powered up for the first time, the switches elect a Master Switch, which may
occupy any location in the stack. Connect the terminal to the Master Switch. If you connect the terminal to a
subordinate switch, you will not be able to use the CLI.

    Stacking

You can stack up to 12 PowerConnect 6224 and/or 6248 switches, supporting up to 576 front panel ports.
Create a stack by connecting adjacent units using the stacking ports on the left side of the switch rear.

    1. Connect one of the short stacking cables into either of the stacking ports of the top switch and the
switch directly below it. Install a separately purchased stacking module in rear "Bay 1" of each of the
    switches in the stack.

    2. For each switch in the stack, connect one of the short stacking cables from stacking port one on the
switch to stacking port two on the next switch.

    3. If necessary, use a separately purchased, long (3 meter) stacking cable to connect the switches. Repeat
this process until all of the devices are connected.

    4. Use the remaining stacking cable to connect the remaining free ports, one each on the top and bottom
    switches.

Page 250 of the user guide has stacking information -  http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/network/PC62xx/en/UCG/ucg_en.zip.

Setting interface up for VLAN 10 on Powerconnect

    console# configure

    console(config)# interface ethernet xxx

    console(config-if)# switchport mode access

    console(config-if)# switchport access vlan 10

    console(config-if)# end

    Hope this helps,

Keep us updated if you can.

    console# configure

    console(config)# interface ethernet xxx

    console(config-if)# switchport mode access

    console(config-if)# switchport access vlan 10

    console(config-if)# end

is the beginning of what i need. this does not show me what i need to do to provision certain ports for different vlans. what are the necessary commands to make different ports assigned to different vlans?

    1.  Creating VLANs:

    console> enable

    console# config

    console(config)# vlan database

    console(config-vlan)# vlan 2

    console(config-vlan)# exit

    console(config)# interface vlan 2

    console(config-if)# name Marketing

    console(config-if)# end

    console# show vlan

    2.  Switchport Mode Access:

Access Links connect VLAN unaware devices to the port of a VLAN-aware switch. All frames on access links are untagged. The VLAN switch adds tags to received frames, and removes tags when transmitting frames.

End users and VLAN-unaware workstations commonly reside on access links. By Default all ports are in ACCESS mode assigned to the default VLAN (VLAN 1).  Ports set to Access mode belong to one VLAN only.

    console# configure

    console(config)# interface ethernet xxx

    console(config-if)# switchport mode access

    console(config-if)# switchport access vlan xxx

    console(config-if)# end

    3.  Switchport Mode Trunk:

Trunk Links attach two VLAN aware switches (or other VLAN aware devices) together and allows for multiple VLAN frames to cross one link. On VLAN trunk links, all frames must be tagged with the respective VLAN ID’s.  The native VLAN must match on all switches in the segment. (VLAN 1 is default Native VLAN).  The native VLAN is NOT tagged.

    console# configure

    console(config)# interface ethernet e11

    console(config-if)# switchport mode trunk

console(config-if)# switchport trunk allowed vlan add 100

    console(config-if)# end

    4.  Switchport Mode General:

General Links consist of a combination of VLAN Trunk and Access Links.  General Links can have both tagged and untagged frames, However, all frames sent to a specific VLAN must be tagged.  All untagged  frames are sent to the native VLAN.  The native VLAN still applies to the General LINK.  While it is possible to have multiple untagged vlans on a General link, you can only have ONE (1) PVID.  The PVID represents the native VLAN.  While untagged traffic may be sent via several untagged VLANs, returning untagged traffic will only be received by the PVID and therefore will NOT be forwarded to a specific VLAN.  General links are mostly used today for legacy equipment.  However, on the PowerConnect 62xx series switches, you must use General mode if you want to allow management traffic onto the switch over the PVID.  If you use Trunk mode, you will not have the default VLAN on those ports.  The ports will only allow tagged traffic.

    console# configure

    console(config)# interface ethernet e11

    console(config-if)# switchport mode general

console(config-if)# switchport general allowed vlan add 100 tagged

console(config-if)# switchport general allowed vlan add 1 untagged

    console(config-if)# end

These are all options for Layer 2 connectivity.
