Firmware Upgrade Killed My 2300?
In order to fix a frequent disconnect problem I was having with one of the PCs on my wireless network, I just updated the firmware of my TM 2300 with the R74643 file I downloaded from the Dell web site.
After following all the update instructions, I am no longer able to access the router, either over the air, or via a cable connection directly between my PC and the router.
My PC finds the router's signal, and indicates that its signal strength of excellent. The router also seems to still have its WEP settings, and non-default identifying name that I assigned to it while it was still working. (I expected the upgrade to erase them all.) But I cannot connect to the router, nor use the router utility to access it.
I have tried cycling power numerous times, to no avail. I've tried doing a hardware reset (paperclip through hole in the back of the unit), but this has no effect no matter how long I hold the reset button, no reset occurs. The unit retains its settings (those that I can see), and gives no indication of a reset.
The lights on top of the 2300 blink in a rhythmic pattern: POWER, WIRELESS, POWER, WIRELESS, POWER, WIRELESS. After the third cycle the WIRELESS light stays on for about five seconds, then all the lights go out for about three seconds, then the cycle starts again.
When I have my cable modem connected to the router, the INTERNET light blinks, which I believe is normal. If I have an ethernet cable connected between my PC and the router, then the appropriate LAN light stays illuminated, as normal.
Is my router toast? Or can something bring it back from the dead?
