Hi.  I have an inspiron 8200 running windows XP with an Actiontec MD56ORD V92 MDC internal modem.  I had sent the system back to dell to have the video board replaced.  When it came back Windows would not recognize or could not find my modem.  At the time this was not a big deal since I was on a wireless netword and did nto need the modem.  Now I have to use it for travel and need to use the modem to dial into my network.   The device manager shows the modem and lists it as working properly, the diagonostic also says the modem is running fine.  I tried hyperlink and it told me I had a tapi error code 80000048 and to resolve with the modem/phone option on the control panel.  The problem is that my control panel does not list a phone or modem option.  When I tried to create a new connection windows shoed the dial-up connection "grayed out" and would only allow me to setup the new connection with the wireless lan network.  

    With the thought that this might somehow be a bad modem I installed a PCMIA modem which device manager also recognized and also said was working properly - again same problem. 

   I just installed service pack 2 of windows XP - same problem - I downloaded the latest driver for the modem - same problem

 

         What am I not doing?
