truemobile 2300 WDS capability?

Does the Dell 2300 Truemobile have WDS capacity?

Running a Dell 2300 Truemobile wireless router in an XP pro environment. Have had difficulty with signal range and have tried a Linksys WRE54G (range extender, or repeater). Can see it from my wireless card's utility (dell truemobile 1300 WLAN mini-pci card) but cannot connect, and the range extender is not communicating with router.

Fine print says RE uses a standard called WDS (Wireless Distribution something) and requires that capability from router.

Router has firmware 3.0.0.8 7/24/03. If there's a firmware update I need, which one?

Having the EXACT same scenario.  TrueMobile does not support WDS.  Looking for a Dell range extender now.

Further update: Although D-Link's DWL G800AP repeater/access point claims it only works with other D-Link stuff, Dell offers it on its accessories site. I have been able to use one as an access point hard-wired to my TrueMobile 2300 router but not yet successfully as a repeater.

However, as an access point it is way more powerful than the 2300, so my problem of dead spots is solved.

Hints: The G800AP didn't like dynamic addressing very much, and you have to move it to the IP address range of the 2300 (which is 192.168.2.1)

    1) Change the IP address of a hard-wired computer so you can talk to the G800AP. Go to network connections control panel, right click on the LAN connection, and click properties. On general tab, scroll to TCP-IP and click properties.  set IP address to 192.168.0.x

    2) Use the G800AP's utility on CD to change G800's address from 192.168.0.30 to 192.168.2.30. Change the hard-wired computer back to the 2 range also.

    3. On every other computer on the system, Go to the Internet Protocol settings box in each computer on the system (network connections, right click on the LAN or wireless connection, and click properties. On general tab, scroll to TCP-IP and click properties), and select Use the following IP address: (as opposed to automatically or dynamically from the router).

Give each computer on the network an address in the 192.168.2.x range (use the ones you documented running ipconfig if you like). subnet mask s/b 255.255.255.0. Default gateway and DNS s/b 192.168.2.1, which is the address of the Truemobile 2300.

select channels for the 2300 and the G800AP at least 6 apart (5 & 11, for example). Set the G800AP to run as an access point.

Set 2300 to use fixed addresses rather than DHCP (dynamic assignment).

After I did those things, system ran like blazes, but I was out past the edge of my competence for many hours....

i recently added the linksys wre54g and and also added a set of linksys high gain antenna to my linksys wrt54g router which is located in the front of the house in the home office. my i8600 has a dell true mobile dual band 1400 mini wlan card. connecting outside on the patio table has improved significantly in fact it maintains its 54mpbs and signal is excellent .
