Wireless connection

Need help...please. I have purchased inspiron notebook 710m.  I have Timewarner for my modem and purchased router Linksys WRT54G. The internet connection is working fine. Whenever I use my laptop, I have all these wires. I've been trying to go wireless and gives me a message that my Wireless  Network Connection Not connected. When I view the available wireless, it gives me a message that Windows can not configure this wireless connection. I believe  WLAN 1370 mini pc should be installed. I did a network test on my Dell WLAN wireless, the status link own...failed.  Don't know what's wrong. First time owner and don't know what to do.

OK. You have your cable modem connected to the cable, the WRT54G connected with ethernet cable to the cable modem and your system connected with cable to the WRT54G? Thats working OK?

You want to disconnect the ethernet connection to your computer and use the wireless connection.

You believe you have a Truemobile 1370 device in the computer. Look in the network window: Start|Network Connections . If you have a wireless device it will be listed there. If you do, is the device enabled? If not, right click on the device and choose Enable from the pop up menu.

If all that is OK, go to the routers set up page (192.168.1.1) and find the wireless settings. Make sure the wireless is turned on and don't use any encryption. You should now be able to connect wirelessly. Once you have that working, you can set encryption as needed.
