Wireless network problem

Hi All,

I have a Dell Inspiron 14R laptop with wireless n2230. Before I recover my laptop, the wireless always shown "no internet access" when I connect to wireless router. After I recover my laptop, the wireless work fine. But, after that, the wireless suddenly cannot detect any wireless router anymore. I tried to update the wireless driver , but no use. I tried to uninstall the driver and install back, but once I uninstall the driver, my laptop cannot detect the wireless adapter anymore. Anybody encounter with this situation before?

    Hi cxcxcx0505,

You may try the following steps to see if that works:

    1. Try 'Safe Mode with Networking': Please try to start the laptop in the diagnostic mode to see if we get the internet access. A corrupt firewall setting or any other third party software application may be blocking the 'Internet access'. Please follow these steps:

    - Power off the laptop
    - Power it back on and repeatedly tap (If Windows logo appears, please restart your laptop and repeat the steps)
    - Use arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight 'Safe Mode with Networking' option (Mouse is not functional on this screen)
    - Tap
    - Desktop screen appears (Icons may look bigger as laptop functions only with the basic drivers)
    - Check the wireless internet access and report

    2. Try to disable the firewall of anti-virus that is installed in the computer and check the result. This laptop is generally shipped with mcafee anti-virus. If Mcafee is installed on your laptop, please follow the steps listed below to disable the mcafee firewall temporarily:

    - Locate the 'McAfee' icon on the taskbar. This is located in the lower right-hand side of your screen next to the clock
    - Right click 'Mcafee' icon and go to 'Settings'
    - Click 'Firewall' (Following screen appears)

    - Click 'Settings'
    - Turn off the 'Mcafee firewall' (Select 15 minutes)
    - Click 'Done'
    - Re-check the 'internet access'
    - If 'Internet works, repeat the same steps to launch Mcafee firewall' interface
    - Click 'Turn On' (following screen appears)

    - Click 'Restore Defaults' and re-check the Internet access

    3. If 'Internet' does not work on disabling Mcafee firewall, you may try removing the 'wireless profile'. This issue also occurs when the profile goes corrupt. Please follow the steps listed below:

    - Open the Network and Sharing Center. There, on the left side column, click on "Manage wireless networks" (Following screen appears)

    - In the 'Manage Wireless Networks' window, you can see the profiles of all the wireless networks which were connected in the past.
    - Select the network with which you are facing trouble, and click 'Remove'

    - Confirm that you want to remove the network profile. The profile of the wireless network is now deleted. Windows will detect that network as if it was a new discovery and you will be able to enter all the details again and connect to it.

If the issue still persists, I request you to provide me more information in regards to the wireless issue. It will help me get an in-depth understanding:

    - When did the wireless issue occur?
    - Did you make any software or hardware changes to the laptop just before the issue occurred?
    - Which anti-virus is installed on the laptop?
    - Please share the name and model number of the wireless router
    - Please share the name and model number of the modem (if present)
    - Do you use a 'security key' to connect to the wireless; or is it an unsecured connection?
    - If it is a secure wireless connection, do you know the wireless network security key?
    - Is the 'Internet connection' a 'Cable' or 'DSL'?
    - Please share the name of the 'Internet Service Provider'

    Please share the findings.

I just bought this new laptop for 4 months. And, for the past few months, it works fine. Recently, this issue happened. My router is "D-link". I think this is not the router problem, because my laptop is facing the same problem when I try to connect at other places.

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I tried the safe mode with networking just now. But , cannot also. My laptop seems like cannot detect the wireless adapter.

    imageshack.us/.../77725515.jpg

(See the picture) In my network connection, there is only bluetooth and the LAN. No WLAN.

    imageshack.us/.../41161689.jpg

In my device manager also, there are only the LAN and bluetooth. When i scan for changes for hardware, the wireless adapter cannot be found.

I found that there are also a lot of case where the DELL computer wireless not working after reformat. But, there is no solution which works.

    Hi cxcxcx0505,

Inspiron 14R has three variants: Inspiron N4110, Inspiron N4120, Inspiron 5420. Please share the exact system model. From above troubleshooting, It appears that the wireless card is not getting detected in 'Device Manager'. You can load the BIOS defaults by following the steps below:

    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as you see the blue Dell logo start tapping the ‘F2’ key on the top of the keyboard.
    • If you wait too long and the Microsoft Windows appears, then continue to wait until you see the Windows desktop. Now shutdown your computer and try again.
    • After this a new window would appear. You can only use the arrow keys of the keyboard to navigate between the options as the mouse is not functional in this mode.
    • Press F9 to load defaults and press F10 to save an exit.
    • Restart your computer.

If the issue still persists, you can update the drivers for wireless card and BIOS of your computer. You can update the drivers for wireless card from link:  http://dell.to/Zxv3pl and drivers for bluetooth from link:  http://dell.to/UkbzzD

    Steps to download drivers:-

    • Click 'Download file' to download the list to a folder you will designate.
    • Click 'Save'. Then designate the folder you would like to save the files to.
    • Once you have designated the folder you would like to save your files to, Click 'OK'.
    • Selected downloads will automatically start downloading. Next is Installation.
    • To start installation, Click Open folder. Right-click a downloaded file and select the option to ‘Run as administrator’.
    • A small window will appear with 'Continue' and 'Exit' buttons, click 'Continue'.
    • In the Select the folder where you want to unzip the files to window, click OK.
    • If a message appears asking to create a folder, click 'Yes'. If a message appears asking to overwrite the folder, click 'Yes to All'.
    • In the All files were successfully unzipped window, click OK.
    • A new window will appear, follow the prompts that appear to finish the installation.
    • Restart your computer.

If the issue still persists, update the system BIOS.

Note: Make sure the ac adapter is connected and the battery is charged 10% or above to update the BIOS. Also, disconnect all the external peripherals before updating the BIOS. All the programs should be closed and documents saved.

    Link to download BIOS:  http://dell.to/Rgg0M1

If the issue still persists, you might need to reseat the wireless card and antennae.

    Please share the findings.

    Hi Chinmay,

Thanks for your reply. My laptop model is Inspiron 14R SE 7420. Am I right if I download in the following link for the bios update?

    www.dell.com/.../inspiron-14r-se-7420

I have tried the latest version of driver, but also cannot. I just worry if it is safe to flash the bios.

    cxcxcx0505,

I found that there are also a lot of case where the DELL computer wireless not working after reformat

When you reinstalled the operating system, did you install the Desktop/Notebook system software(if applicable) and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Start with the Desktop/Notebook system software and the chipset drivers and follow the list.

    Hi,

I did not install the driver myself. I use the recovery provided by Dell. So, when I recover my laptop, the driver already being install.

    cxcxcx0505,

If you use the Recovery Partition, then no drivers are needed to be installed. Restoring Your Computer´s Software to the Factory Settings

I have seen some virus programs removing drivers for wireless devices, causing the system no to connect.

    Hi Rick,

I have tried both, recovery partition and also restore to the factory setting. The problem my laptop having  is the wireless card cannot be detected. Even when I go to the device manager, when I scan for hardware changes, I cannot find the wireless card there! If there is virus that can cause such a big problem even after I restore to factory setting, then, it must be bootkit !!!
