    i7-4790 or i7-4790k.

    motherboard cpu socket is LGA1150
cannot upgrade to newer generation Intel cpu.

    Intel core cpu socket evolution:

    LGA1366 or LGA1156 (1st) >> 1155 (2nd/3rd) >> 1150 (4th) >> 1151 (5th-9th) >> 1200 (10/11) >> 1700 (12/13)

Hi, are you saying I should upgrade the motherboard itself?

I am saying you need a completely new system of mobo, cpu, and ram if you want to upgrade above 4th gen intel cpu.  Options are intel 8th gen or above vs AMD Ryzen.  Both use ddr4 ram.  Intel 4th gen cpu is the last gen using ddr3 ram.

upgrade from 4th to 5/6/7th gen has very little improvement in cpu performance.
