Introductory Oracle Resource Thread
Greetings,
One thing I've always found in technology forums is that sometimes there's an assumption that everyone already has a rudimentary knowledge of the topic. That's not necessarily a problem but on occasion it's really helpful to have some resources for those folks who're new to a particular technology. The purpose of this thread is to provide some resources that help bring one's knowledge from beginner to intermediate.
The first one I'd like to present is OraFAQ: http://www.orafaq.com/wiki/Main_Page
This site runs the gamut between beginner and advanced topics. Most of the FAQ topics start with a description of the term and then proceed to explain and elaborate on the concept - a great way to handle this kind of information. It's also running on MediaWiki, my personal favorite wiki software so it's easy to peruse the available content and the search functionality is superb.

Here's a tutorial about block sizes and how Oracle handles them in various contexts. It also talks a bit about determining the block size in use - something that's super handy for us in the storage field. I will admit that it's not exactly a "beginner's" tutorial but it is so relevant to this community that I couldn't pass up sharing the link. Thanks, Everton! Good news for you: The Everything SAP at EMC community will be available soon and likely I'll be doing the same thing there. Oh, and you're right. A list of Oracle training available from EMCU along with commentary on the class is a great idea. Look for that shortly.

Here's another introductory resource for Oracle. It's a collection of tutorials on how to perform basic tasks in Oracle. It's really fundamental but it provides a good run down of the syntax of commands within Oracle and how to perform some of the most common tasks. Hi Rob - You hit the nail in the head. Yes; we naturally assume a knowledge baseline, but honestly even if you have some basic knowledge it can vary widely specially to topics like Oracle or SAP. These companies carry a massive portfolio of products; and you may or may not be aware of the basics around certain products. Well; I am new to EMC and it's amazing how many products we have!
Great link; I am sure to check it out. Also something I would recommend/request is tips around available trainings at edu.corp.emc.com for Oracle and SAP. We have some good stuff there, but I think we can have more, from begginners to expert level.
