PE 2950 III & Adding Memory

Hello,

We have a PE 2950 III running 32GB (4GBx8) of memory.  It's my understanding that the PE 2950 III will support a maximum of 64GB memory.  We purchased 6x8GB of the appropriate memory type, however when I remove what we have and add the new memory (filling 6 of the 8 slots), I get nothing on boot - no beep codes, nothing on the screen at all.  Can anyone shine some light on how and where I might be going wrong here?

Many Thanks.

Do you get a message on the front LCD panel?  The 2950 does not support a 6-DIMM configuration - must be 2,4, or 8 DIMMs.  What are the specs of the memory you purchased?

    Hi -

No relative message on the front LCD panel ... the memory we picked up is "8GB DDR2-667 Fully Buffered ECC".  Interesting, we also tried using the six new modules and 2 of our original 4GB modules, for a total of 8 banks filled ... no go on that, same results.  We also tried 4 of the new modules and 4 of our original modules - same results.

    Thank you.

    Check the documentation update for the 2950 here.  It provides info about using 8GB dimms. Basically you can use 4 x 8 + 4 x 4 or 8 x 8, but not 6 x 8 (with or without 2 more 4GB dimms).

Here is the link to the information update document:

    downloads.dell.com/.../poweredge-2950_user%27s%20guide_en-us.pdf

It says it only supports 8x4 or 8x8
