Today I tried to upgrade the RAM of a T310 server (one X3440 processor) using 4x8Gb memory modules
The mainboard has 6 slots in a row. (The 1st and the 4th slot have white clips).
So, I've installed 2 dimms on the 1st and 2nd slot, and the other 2 ones on the 4th and 5th slot (starting from the top)
When i boot up the server, the lcd on the front, shows the following message "Temp: unavailable" (I think there's more on that message but it stucks there), the fan works on 100% and nothing happens. No screen, no "beeps", no leds on keyboard or mouse, nothing.
I've upgrade BIOS to 1.11.0 but the problem stil remains.
Do you believe that these dimms are going to work? It seems that they are compatible with my server
Yes, those should work. 4 of them will max out the memory at 32GB. Even though they are 1066MHz they will operate at 800MHz if you use 4 of them. If you only put in 2 then they will operate at 1066MHz.
It looks like you have the DIMMs in the correct slots. They should be populated in slots 1,2,3,4; which would correlate to the slots you have populated if I'm looking at the diagram correctly.
The problem is that the memory you are trying to install is not compatible. The T310 does not support x4 or x16 DRAMs on RDIMMs. You are trying to install an x4 RDIMM. I don't think you are going to be able to get these DIMMs to work in this server.
I recently purchased the 8GB kit listed on this link thinking that I would be able to use it with the existing memory. However, any combination of the new and old memory would cause a memory error on the front LCD panel. I think this is because the existing sticks are
2GB 2Rx8 PC3-8500
The ones I purchased are PC3-12800 - which means they probably don't run because of the different speeds. Oops.
