PE2500 setup with out Open manage server assistant
Hey guys,
Just wondering is it possible to install server 2003 without using the open manage server assist software as i do not have the disc.
I have a PE2500 and all the drives are formatted but i am told i need the open manage server assistant to configure the raid controller
Can it be done?

The onboard raid controller that shipped with your server should be a PERC3-Di. You can configure the array in the bios of the PERC controller. When the server POSTs, you will see a line of text that says "Dell Poweredge Expandable RAID Controller...". Pay attention to the bios/firmware version--should be something like 2.1-3. It will say press control A to get into setup. Enter the setup-Container Configuration Utility. Below is a link to how to setup an array in the Bios of the Perc controller. After configuring the array, you can do an install of the OS, booting to windows 2003 server CD, pressing F6 and providing a driver that matches the firmware version of the controller.
Before loading windows 2003, update the system bios to the latest, and update the firmware on the PERC controller in steps, 2.1-3 to 2.5 then to 2.7.1 then to 2.8. Then use the 2.8 version perc driver for window 2003.
Below is a link to get the Bio, Perc firmware and driver updates.
