1600sc And Win 2003 Server Web Edition?
How come I can't order a 1600SC Poweredge server with the Windows 2003 Web-Edition operating system preinstalled?
I don't need the full 2003 package as I only want to run it as a web-server.
Will the Microsoft Small Business Server that is slightly more expensive work fine as a WEB-Server operating system?

Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition - Active Directory = Windows Server 2003, Web Edition.
Even if you order just plain Windows Server 2003, do not install Active Directory but install IIS6 instead, you get (technically speaking) what is called Windows Server 2003, Web Edition. There's no such thing as a 'web-edition OS'. It's just a stripped down version of Standard Edition and would read "Web Edition" when you boot it. There is no technical difference.
If you have the choice, I would recommend getting Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition. Unless you want to get the additional server applications such as Exchange, SQL, etc., Standard will be more than enough if your target is to host an Internet Information Server.

I know that the WEB-Edition is a stripped down Standard edition, but there is also a price difference and as I don't intend to run active directory and I only want to SQL-Server and IIS.
I can order the rack servers with the WEB-edition so why can't I order the 1600sc with that as well?
I just don't want to pay extra for something that I never will need.

Yes, I saw that they don't have web-edition as an option for 1600SC. If I were you, I would call their sales line at 1-800-917-DELL. Sometimes they can add it, or perhaps they would know why this is not an option. I cannot think of any reason why they don't have it.
