How to test or replace a PERC H800

We have a couple of MD1200's connected to a PERC H800.

Three weeks ago the PowerEdge 2950 that the H800 was installed in started rebooting from one to five times a day. Since no correlating events could be found in any logs and there hadn't been any software updates prior to the issue, it seemed that the problem could be hardware related so I replaced the server with a spare 2950 and transferred the H800 to the replacement machine. Now the replacement machine has also started rebooting in the same way.

Since the H800 is the only common server hardware when both 2950's have rebooted and the reboots have only occurred during periods that data was being accessed on the MD1200's, it looks like the issue could be related to the H800.

So a couple of questions:

1. How to test the H800?

2. How to connect the MD1200's to a replacement H800 without loosing the RAIDs

Thanks

    Hello simonp23,

The steps that you have list are correct.  Your virtual disk information is saved on your drives in the first enclosure as well as the controller.  since you are just swapping the H800 controllers you can import the configuration and once booted into windows you should see all your virtual disk.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Hi,

Swapping the card to the other system and the issue continuing makes it sound like it is the card. If you swap to a new cards you should be able to choose import foreign config and it will import the drives.

I have received a replacement H800 from Dell and before replacing it would like to confirm the following steps:

    1. Check firmware version of old H800 (12.10.7-0001)
    2. Shut down server
    3. Power down MD1200's
    4. Disconnect MD1200's SAS cables from H800
    5. Remove old H800 from server
    6. Install new H800
    7. Start server and go into H800 controller config at boot
    8. Clear any existing config data
    9. Boot to Windows and update H800 firmware to match old H800
    10. Shutdown Windows
    11. Connect MD1200's to H800 and power them on
    12. Power on server and go into H800 config at boot
    13. Import foreign configs to H800 controller from MD1200's
    14. Save config and boot to Windows

Please can someone confirm that this is correct?

Will the H800 be able to import foreign configs from the two connected MD1200's?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Older firmware will not be available for download in public. You will need to contact support to raise a case to request for older releases from engineering.
