I'm trying to get the RMU working via serial cable. I have it working via network but it's way too limited and slow. I got a cable with the unit that says "straith serial" and the serial port on the server is enabled (bios and device manager in windows). The OS on the server is Windows 2003 Standard Server with SP1 (fresh install slipstreamed). I Tried HyperTerminal and CRT 3.0.2. All configured to 9600,8,N,1. Am my missing something? Could the cable be bad? I don't have a spare cable right now.. I'm guessing I'll have to dig one up.
I was under the impression from reading this forum that the RMU via serial could be used to reboot the library (not just the RMU like on the web interface) and potentially more. The web interface is painfully slow when it comes to accessing the menu. Will that be fixed soon?
not sure if you have this or not its a link to the Docs that discuss the RMU:

You should be able to connect via the serial cable w/ hyperterm using 38400-8-none-1-none for your settings. once connected you will see RMU> as prompt from here type help and you will see a list of options via this port. It is very limited.
There are no plans in the works for that RMU. I do recall the operator panel via the web interface is a bit on the slow side but the rest of the functions shouldn't have a problem. About the only hting I can think of to increase speed is to verify its not network traffic slowing you down. There really is nothing to "tweak" to increase performance.
