926 AIO Stopped Printing

I've had a very faithful AIO 926 hooked up to my Inspron 1525 running Vista 32b for about 2 years now with no problems.  A few months ago (about the time SP2 was downloaded) my printer quit working.  I can uninstall / reinstall all day and nothing helps.  I have tried downloads from the Dell Center, but still no go.  The best I can get is printer will hang-up at 99% complete. I am about ready to throw it out the window.  Anyone got any ideas?  Thanks.

    Asclepius54,

First thing to do is try Delete Print Jobs

Then reinstall the printer using the instructions located at...

    926 Photo All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

    Let me know what happens.

    Rick,

Followed your instructions to the "T".  No benefit; printer still refuses to print.  When I get the request to print a Test Page at the end if install it stalls at 20% completion.  Regular printing jobs still stall at 99% completion.  I'm opening my window now and preparing to heave this 926 out.   It has been so simple - just plug and play - that even I can do it.  This is not the first AIO printer I've owned from Dell.  The thing that really irks me is that I've changed nothing.  I am the only user on this computer.  Some GD update to patch GD Vista has introduced some conflict that now inactivates my printer.  I'm beginning to understand why people are so unhappy with Microsoft.
    Regards,

    Bob,

What are you trying to print? When you go to print, try clicking file, print and make sure the proper printer is selected.

You could try using system restore and go back to when the printer worked.

Same with me. I've given up on it and switching back to an HP printer. Dell printers are useless.

I have had the exact same problem.  My AIO 926 worked for a couple years.  All of a sudden it started hanging at 20% completion or something similar.

Insprion 530 with USB cable to AIO 926.  Windows Vista 32 Bit.

I have run the complete uninstall patch R166248 and it does cause the printer to completely uninstall.  Then I have run the R146832 to reinstall it.  I still have problems after completing these steps.

I cannot figure out what change occurred to cause this.  My best guess is an automatic Vista update.

Does anyone have any other ideas?  Is buying a new printer the only solution?  Would upgrading to Windows 7 solve it?

    Frustrated!

     aio926quit,

From helping others in the past, I feel that you issue may have to do with the USB Ports in the Inspiron 530.  Disconnecting the printer and running the patch(printer cleanup utility) removes the printer, then restarting the computer usually cleans out the rest of the files. Installing the printer drivers, then waiting for the message, the printer is not connected, and connecting the printer(powered on) usually install most of the printers but form some reason I have noticed the model of the computer you're using sometimes has some type of USB Port issue and does not install.
