Ok, I hope I can help you out on how our 1700n is set up on our home network. I have our 1700n laser printer hooked straight to our wireless router which is from Bell South. The router itself has 4 network hard wire connections, 2 usb connetions and the usuall power, etc. Our printer goes straight to one of the network connections on the router, and thats it. The router is hard wired to the base computer through one of the 4 network connectors.. You must install the printer software to recognize the base computer as the stand alone. All other computers must have the software installed in them and set as the wireless. Of course the other computers must have wireless adapters and set to the wireless router for recognition. For instance my wifes wireless Dell laptop can be in another room, and she can print her documents from there with no problems at all.

I hope this helps, I am not a professional, but this is how mine is set up and works. She only has a recent problem with Adobe , when she prints her docuements, it is not a steady feed. Prints 2 then stops, Prints 2 then stops again. But when she uses Swift View for her docuements, the printer prints very fast with no stopping at all till it is finished.

Thanks Joe. I actaully have it set up like that right now. What I want to do is put a wireless adapter on the pronter so I don't have to connect a hard wire to my router. So I want to connect to the router wirelessly.

Any ideas?

Brian, I am not an expert, but I dont see why it will not work with the wireless apater connected on printer. I think what you have to do, is that the software for the printer must be installed in all computers of your home network, and all of those computers must have some form of a wireless connetion. Then lets say when you want to print to the printer from another computer in another room, it knows where the printer is at, and it starts printing.

It is just a guess, but sounds like it should work. Maybe I might be overlooking something, I dont know. But like I said, my printer is hard wired to the wireless router. And my wifes laptop and my daughters computer all can print to it.

I have the printer USB cable plugged into wireless adaptor. I would go to Network neighborhood and see if it can find the printer on your network. You could also go to the front panel and specify the IP, Subnet and gateway. My wireless router serves DHCP so, I left printer in the default setting and it got itself an IP from my router. You may wish to go to configure and report and print settings. See if the 3000CN has a network address and then ping that address from your printer. You may find that the printer is has an IP that it gave itself. So power off the printer, attach the wireless router and restart the printer. That may help.
