I use the BVPR or whatever software that came with my ZOOM fax PC card.

It says you must have the software faxing box open at all times you want to receive a fax.

Check your cables.  Are they hooked up right behind your computer? (phone goes into phone line jack in back of computer, from jack in wall line goes into your "line" slot in back of your computer - if you have your answering machine hooked up too, I believe these are switched). 

Are your settings set to fax receive?  I know I must set my settings to always receive faxes to work.  Also I used internal answering machine (with the software) that must always be open to work.

Thanks for your suggestions. I checked all my connections & everything Checked out OK. Even though I am trying to fax,are you saying that I still have to have it set up to receive faxes ? Will try it anyway. Thanks again.

Make sure your "scan" setting is set to fax

Also, I had to learn my measley PC had no fax modem card in it.  It cannot be a phone modem like

if you have AT&T DSL.  Their external modem won't work.

I had to buy a fax modem card at a computer store and learn how to push it into the innards of my

DELL computer.  It has to be pushed in hard enough so you don't see the "teeth" part that sticks firmly

into the hardware slot inside your computer tower. 

It is a piece of hardware in a box that comes with its own CD you have to install, so if your computer

doesn't have this fax modem you cannot fax. 

Mine is a ZOOM 3030 I bought for about $35.00.

Normally I get people to re-install their printer. Igf you're using DSL, you need a DSL filter on everything, telephone, answering machine, faxes, ect. Everything connected MUST have a DSL filter except the DSL modem/router.

To re-install the printer drivers, firmware and patched read the instructions below.

Disconnect your printer. Go to start/programs/Dell printers and un-install your printer.

Restart your computer.

Now go to drivers and downloads/select product/printers/select your printer. Download drivers, Utilities, firmware and Patches.

Install your printer. You'll be prompted when to connect it.

Install and patches next. Then the Utilities and firmware.

First, Wall > DSL Modem/router. NO Filter this item only. Everything else needs a DSL Filt5er.

Right click on start

left click explore

click on the + sign at Program files (folder)

Look for the printer and click on the + sign.

Is it there?

In your drivers, when you download them, you will find the Dell All-in-one Center. It has you faxing program and everything you need.

Remember to disconnect your printer first, then click to install the drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect it.

I appreciate your suggestion but I am still getting the same result even after I did this. One thing I did notice is that when I open up the folder for the AIO 922 & open up the Drivers folder, there are only two folders. One is Scan & the other one is Win_XP2k. Should there be a Fax folder ? I have already checked to see if I do have a fax modem & the way I did this is by going to :

 Start/ All Programs / Accesories / Communications / Fax

According to what I read on a reply to another question, this is the way to check to see if you have a fax modem. I  am using DSL & have a filter between my phone & phone jack but do not have one between my phone jack & my DSL Gateway. Do I need one between there ?

I have reinstalled my printer & downloaded the drives. I have also checked to see if the drivers are there. Everything checks out but still no luck with trying to fax. Thanks for your suggestions. I will keep trying whenever I get a chance to work on this.

I checked to find my fax modem this way:

Start / My Computer / Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager / Modems (click on the '+' sign) to see what modems you have.

   My modem is called PCI SoftVoice SoftRing with Smart SP

I'm also having problems faxing out from my All-In-One DELL A940.

I think it is because I don't have the settings down for graphics because they are received by the person

as hyroglyphics - they don't make sense.

I guess in my case it's going to have to be experimentation with faxing to someone's house with different

graphics settings until I get the ones that will print out my handwriting all over a printed page that has

several columns.

I also want to be able to "feed" from the top a legal sized doc.  Mine only says you can fax or copy letter-

sized documents but I use legal size a lot for my business.  Oh well.

I would guess -- but for the fax modem.

My fax modem is a software program that has a box that I can open to fax the doc.  That is what the fax

modem is for.

The program, CD that came with your fax printer just has your function settings, like whether you will copy or fax or scan a document but the second software has to actually do the faxing.  It takes both software programs.

That's why I said check if your PC has a fax modem in it cause people who aren't told this specifically won' always know -- as well as to have their fax modem software open at the time they want to receive a fax!
