To reset the error code, disconnect the power cord from the wall. Also remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Then connect everything again.
I am having this exact problem with the Dell 946. I thought there was something wrong with the cartridge which was in there (which is new and 95% full), so I purchased a new left cartidge at Staples. It is not refilled, but even after trying your solution of unplugging the brick and the power cord, I am still getting the left cartidge missing message. Is there any other way to clear this error message?
i have a Dell 946 all -in- one printer. my printer is having the same problem, displaying:
"left cartridge incorrect", my cartridge is also the correct one, but it's will not print black ink , since i have done every thing that you said for me to do, and it is still not working. then what?
now where do i go from here? is there any thing else that we can do with our Black Ink for it to work? please respond by email, i really need to use my printer to work, so i can print out my work, please help? Mrs. Edna Jones
Are you using Dell Series 5 ink cartridges, generic or refilled cartridges?
If you unplug the printer from the wall and remove the power brick for 60 seconds, this will reset any error messages the printer has. I would then plug everything back in.
Power on the printer.
Open the printer(with the power on) and take out the Dell Series 5 black cartridge and then reseat it. I would then take out the color Dell Series 5 ink cartridge and reseat it. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page.
Any error messages?
black cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)
photo cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges .
Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It's possible to get a Dell Series 5 ink cartridge with a bad sensor. I would that these back to the place of purchase for a replacement or a refund.
