I am somewhat confused by your statemet that they do not show up on the computer. Use Windows Explorer, check in C:\Program files. Is there a folder Microsoft Office? If not, they are not installed. Office 2000 files would mostly be in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office9.

There would also be subfolders under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared relating to Office 2000.

 

Not sure all Office 2000 versions need activation, but if it does and is not activated, when you open an app, the activation wizard will open. Or under the help menu, in say, Word, there will be an entry Activate product. I don't think there is any time limit on when after install you can activate; only that if you do not do so after using the apps a certain number of times (I think 50 or so), the apps have limited useability.

 

Yes there is an Office 2000 folder but no number after that.  [i.e. Office 9].  When I do look within the system information folder to the applications list, all Office 200 programs are listed there but I don't see any .exe in the Microsoft Office folder files to give me a jump start.

I don't have office 2000 and was suggesting the folder structure by analogy with Office XP, sorry if that was wrong.

 

Have you done a search, e.g. for excel.exe,  winword.exe or powerpnt.exe?

 

To ensure that you find them wherever they are:

In folder options, view tab,

check show hidden files and folders

uncheck hide extensions for known file types

uncheck hide protected operating system files (click yes on any warning message

click apply, ok

 

Also in search, more advanced options, check the first three boxes.

 

If the .exe files are not there, it would seem that the folders you have are remnants from an incomplete uninstall.

Thanks for all of your help.  I did as you suggested and found no .exe files.  I looked at my Dell PC at work under that same path and there they were  - all the Office .exe files.

 

So I'm assuming these applications do come with Dell upon purchase but now I'm wondering how I can get these fully installed on my home PC at no cost. 

 

 

Guess I'll never know if my Uncle had this install CD at one or not so I'll have to check the sales for this software.

Office would only have come with the PC if included in the original order (at additional cost). It is a separate suite of programs, not part of Windows. If purchased with the order, they would have been preinstalled, and the installation CDs (with the key on the envelope the CDs come in) would have been sent with the PC.

Click the Start button and go to All Programs and look for a shortcut. It may be a dropdown under Microsoft Office. Click it and see if the program (Word etc.) opens.

Office 2000 apps do not need to be activated. They started that in the next version.
