4100MP - can the remote be used without the USB cable?

Does anyone know if a remote can be used on the 4100MP projector without the 1.8m M1-A to D-sub/USB Cable?

Functions that are for projector operation, such as power on/off and configuration, don't require the USB connection. USB connection is necessary if you intend to use the remote to control your cursor or do Page Up/Down within PowerPoint presentation.
