Broken eject button
Have a 2001 vintage Inspiron 8000 with a CD-RW drive, P/N 996NF in the media bay. The disc eject button has quit working. It appears that the plastic bezel has started to fail and that a spring or spacer has been lost. The eject button is permanently in the "in" position. The drive is otherwise fine and I can eject with a paperclip; but somewhat inconvenient.
After half-a-dozen virtual phone trips to India and who knows where else, connecting to various Tech Support, Customer Support and Spare Parts reps, I can get no info on what I can do about this problem.
I recall that there were issues in 2001 about the fragility of the bezel. Is there a replacement part for the bezel that will solve the problem, or are there replacement drives available?
