IDE Setup for multiple devices

What is the best (recommended) way to set up IDE channels if the computer has two hard drives, a DVD burner and a CDRW? Would the following work, or is there a better way to do it?

IDE #1

Sorry, hit the wrong key and sent before it was time.

This is the setup I meant to include (assumes Cable Select):

IDE #1 Boot drive as Master, 2nd hard drive as slave.

IDE #2 DVD burner as Master, CDRW as slave.

Depends on what model PC you have.  However, most PC's in the last several years (and all new PC's) are shipped using the "Cable Select" device addressing scheme instead of the old Master/Slave.  Whatever is on the end of the cable, in cable select is the "master" device, just strap all the devices for Cable Select, in that case.

Thanks for the info. Actually, I had already planned to use cable select. I didn't do a very good job of making that point. But my issue is whether to put both hard drives on one IDE channel and both optical devices on the other channel, or to put a hard drive and an optical device on each channel.

Most will have the hard drives on one channel and the CD drives on another, and that's the way I've seen most PC's that I've worked on.
