Problems with TS-L632D

I have an Inspiron 9400 Royal and everytime I try to burn a DVD with Nero 7 the whole system slows down and a DVD with 8x takes an hour!
Is it a drive- or a softwareproblem?

Right click on My Computer and choose properties.  Then choose Hardware...Device Manager.  Click on IDE ATA / ATAPI adapters...open the tree and double click on the Secondary IDE channel...choose advanced properties.  Make sure your drive says that it 's running in "Ultra DMA Mode 2"  Oftentimes, drives slip into PIO mode and it really slows things down.  If you are  in PIO...choose DMA if available...and the machine should request a reboot.  After reboot...check again and make sure Ultra DMA Mode 2 on Secondary IDE...if it's there...you should be back  to full speed

    Thanks for the reply.
The problem is, the secondary Channel is already on "DMA if available", but under "Current Transfer Mode" it says "PIO Mode".
Drivers are up to date (DELL homepage). What now?

Same problem I had.  Uninstall the DVD burner AND Secondary IDE Channel.  Reboot...when Windows re-detects...the settings will work properly...

Highlight the DVD burner...uninstall.  Then highlight the Secondary IDE...uninstall.

    Reboot

Happy Holidays to you as well.  Glad it worked!  For some reason...Windows XP will do this...keep a heads up and you'll be fine
