Reinstalling Easy CD Creator 5 Basic

Software - Version 5.3.4 SP8 Basic

Dell System - 4550

O/S - Windows XP

I continue to receive the following error when I attempt to reinstall Easy CD Creator 5 Basic from my Dell supplied CD:

Error 1402 "Could not open key" ... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Roxio\Master Setup\Easy CD Creator\5.0\Basic...File List

Any ideas?

Thank you for visiting the Dell Community Forum.

Try completely uninstalling the Roxio software from the system (all instances of it) before you try installing and see if that helps.

You can find some more detailed information on uninstalling Roxio at the following web address:

If that does not help, you may want to try uninstalling Roxio and then using Regedit remove the registry key that is listed in the error message (make sure to backup the registry first in case something goes wrong) and see if that helps. Be very careful when messing around with the system registry as a mistake made can corrupt Windows and force a complete reinstall.
