VMax virtual pool/provisioning

I'm trying to determine how the virtual pool/provisioning works in the VMax.  I've read multiple papers but it isn't providing me with the details I am looking for.  I hope someone can explain this part to me.

Lets say I have a virtual pool of #100  400GB fibre drives.  I choose Raid6 protection.  I create #10 100GB luns/devices in this pool.  Is each lun spread across all 100 physical drives in what is called extents (no thin devices in my config)?  If so, does that mean if I lose 3 hard drives all 10 of my created luns are destroyed?  Or is there some underlying component that has a protection at a physical drive level.  Perhaps the array is aware of the 6+2 config and can protect the lun in ways that arent described in the papers I am reading.

Am I making any sense?  If so, please shed some light on this for me or link me to a document that can describe this type of layout.

Thanks!
