Getting SNMP Alerts with Windows 2003
I am having a very hard time trying to understand how to get hardware status alerts to be picked up by my monitoring system. I have 20 PowerEdge servers of various sizes and vintages. I've started working with the newest (less than 1 year old) running Windows 2003 Server Standard. I've installed the latest version of Server Administrator, and using the Server Administrator console I can see that the hardware status probes are working. (I get a beep and a console message if a power supply fails or a fan fails.) However, I can't seem to get my monitoring system (Ncentral from N-able) or a simple SNMP utility like GetIf to see the Dell mibs. I just tried to recompile the default Windows mib.bin file to include the Dell 10892.mib file but that does not seem to have had any effect.
Is there anyone that can make this work? I know that Microsoft's SNMP implementation is not very good, but is that what is causing my problems?
Thanks in advance,
Joe
