explorer.exe using 99% CPU
Hi,
I have a 3 month old XPS M140 laptop which is currently and consistantly running at 100% CPU every time I log on, I think due to the process explorer.exe, which, according to my task manager, uses 99% of the CPU. I have my security up to date, which claims that I have no breaches, but people have suggested, when I asked for help in other locations, that maybe I have a virus or spyware. Could a virus/ spyware cause explorer.exe to run up my CPU, and how can I fix this??

Yes a virus and or spyware can cause your CPU to run that high.
Go Here And download HijackThis
Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\\HJT\\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents AT THE LINK BELOW

and include a description of the problem along with your log
Please do not be tempted to "fix" on your own. Hijackthis is a very powerful tool, if used incorrectly can cause system problems
