hijack this log

hi inspiron 1100 running slow. followed all instructions for spyware removal etc. in faq but still slow comp. heres my hijack this log...thanks a lot for ure help

    nothing obvious in the log.  Right click on the clock and select Task manager then Process and click on the CPU at the top of the column twice.   This should sort things by highest users.  It should normally be system idle with 95% or more.  What do you see as the top user if not system idle?

    i see explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe both at 3%

    and system idle is >95%...so strange dont know what is goin on....

    Taking off Bug Killer hat and putting on PC Repair hat.
     
    Common problem with XP:  Could be your harddrive has been set to PIO mode.  XP does this if it has 6 problems with the drive. 
     
    Start, rightclick on My Computer and select Manage to get to the Device Manager.  Open Device Manager, and doubleclick on IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers then doubleclick Primary IDE channel, select Advanced setting then under Device 0 Transfer Mode, set it to DMA if Available and OK then reboot.  IF this is not possible then:
     
    This is Microsoft's workaround from
     
    1.Double-click Administrative Tools, and then click Computer Management.2.Click System Tools, and then click Device Manager.3.Expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers node.4.Double-click the controller for which you want to restore the typical DMA transfer mode.5.Click the Driver tab.6.Click Uninstall.7.When the process completes, restart your computer. When Windows restarts, the hard disk controller is re-enumerated and the transfer mode is reset to the default value for each device that is connected to the controller.
     
    They also have a hotfix you have to call and beg for.  I see the date on it is 2003 so it's possible that a later SP fixed the problem or perhaps the fix didn't work.
     
    Also some Dells have a default in BIOS that disables DMA mode.  You should check your CMOS Setup to make sure yours is enabled.  I expect you need to hit F2 during a boot to get into Setup.
