Trend Micro PC-CILLIN Question

Hi,
We just recently decided not to renew our McAfee Anti Virus for our Dimension XPSXXX since it did not catch alot of viruses and switch to Trend Micro's Pc-cillin which we were using the free scan online.  We uninstalled the McAfee and installed the Pc-cillin.   Prior to this we defragged and did a scan disk in safe mode since this seems to be the fastest way.
Well now the computer seems to freeze up alot and I mean alot.  I have three teenage girls who are willing at any given moment to chuck the computer out the window.
I don't know if I should run adware programs first and then do a virus scan.  The pc-cillin seems to update alot and then on the start of the computer being turned on it's always asking about the firewall not being able to update.  It says that I should go to the website and ask.  I have gone to the website but have had no luck.
Any suggestions before it ends up on my front lawn.  Thanks

Thanks for the info.  I am glad to hear that it may not be the software.  I'm going to look into seeing if there are any conflicts going on with other software.  Thanks again.

for what it is worth, I have been running PC Cillin on two very similar machines, with no problem.   Using Dell PII 450mhz, 384MB ram, Windows XP Home, - PC -Cillin since Oct 2004.  No Problems, rock solid, never freezes (though the update interuption is annoying).   This was a clean install of XP Home on new 80 GB hard drive and PC Cillin with no other antivirus ever run on that O/S.

Just installed PC _ Cillin yesterday on new machine: Dimension PC with 3 GHZ processor, 512 RAM and Xp Professional - and no probs there either.
