Keeping you safe
As part of our continued commitment to security, we’ve made various minor security improvements based on testing (penetration testing, static code analysis).
Updates like these are typical, preventative measures taken by all good software companies.
I ran that new ccleaner performance optimizer feature offered in v5.92.9652 (last prior free version) and it didn't work properly.
It scanned my Win 10 (21H2) PC and when it was done, there was just the normal ccleaner GUI surrounding a totally empty white box. ccleaner was still running because I could run a clean or registry scan, etc.
Haven't installed this new update so remains to be seen if the optimizer works now...
Just ran the update to the newest v6 of ccleaner. It got ~3/4 through the update according to the progress bar and popped an error message saying the update failed, with Retry and Cancel options. I clicked Retry and got same error, so I clicked Cancel.
Back at ccleaner's "start" page, I clicked the link for updates again and it offered the same v6. Launched it and got same error message. This time I just Canceled and closed ccleaner completely. When I opened ccleaner again -guess what- the new v6 number is shown in upper left corner. How could the update "fail" and yet still install the new version..???
Ran the Performance Optimizer thingy -mostly out of curiosity- and this time it actually started doing something, while in the prior version, it only opened a blank white box. The Optimizer got to 100% and suddenly popped an error saying it got disconnected from the ccleaner server and aborted. Retried...same error...
Guess they need some serious fixes to get this update to install and run properly. So IMO, just avoid this update for a while.
Be interested to hear if anyone else has had similar issues...
