code upgrade

IHAC planned code upgrade to 5875.267.201; though its non-disruptive; i have few queries

Question:
In CLARiiON each SP's reboot and result path outage coming from that SP.

We have similar path outage from VMAX ?

whether We need to ask server team to be alert?

Any impact analysis documnet in powerlink available?

Thanks in advance.

regards
Pras

    hi,

In Clariion, SP reboot should not result in Path dead (if PP is installed and host configuration is correct). Same is with VMAX upgrade, if host has redundant paths and multipathing is configured then there should not be any impact.

    regards,

    Saurabh

    Hi pmenon5,

There is no need to configure redundant Paths on host during VMAX code upgrade, the reason is first code install on SP (Service Processor) and after that it will be loaded on directors or other components. This is completely online process and directors are not rebooting during it.

yes, the paths to the SP that is being rebooted goes dead, PowerPath will recover when it's back online.

I agree with Saurabh. There should be redundant paths. In case customer has 2 HBAs, and zoned and masked to 2 FA ports, it will be a good scenerio, in which even if the whole Bus goes dead, you still have paths from the second HBA that is connected to a different FA port.
