Fractured Mirroring

We have our VNX going to 2 diffrent brocades for mirroring for redundancy. On the weekend one of the brocades went down. When I signed on to the VNX it said mirror was consistent and actives for all LUNS but if I clicked on one it said "fractured".

So I was assume all mirroring would go down the the one brocade that existed. Does fractured mean all mirroring stopped ?

Frature means the MIrroring has been stopped until the problem is resolved. There are two types of Frature: Admin Ffracture and System Fracture. IF you have auto restore enabled on the mirrors, then when the problem is resolved, the mirrors will pickup where they were if it is System Fractured. If it is Admin Fractured, then the Admin must take steps to restore the mirrors.

See the attached White Paper for MIrrorview - this is for release 30, but the fracture information is the same for VNX

    Thanks for the response.

We have 4 path for mirroring, only 2 went down I thought we had set this up correctly for redundancy. So when there is a problem with mirroring it shuts down completely ? It restarted on it's own so I asume its system fractured. We've only just got the VNX so I'm learning all this now/

Take a look at page 16 in the document - you should only have a connection from SPA on one array to SPA on the other array and a separate connection for SPB to SPB. You should not cross connect SPA to SPB - that's not allowed. If the paths for SPB go down, the mirroring will still contine for the LUNs owned by SPA. Once the path for SPB comes back (and the fracure was System), mirroring will contine.

I'm assuing you using Mirrorview Sync. The pathing is the same for Async or is using iSCSI.
