what version of Powerpath are you running ? You have to be at specific version of PowerPath that support VNX series. If you already have the license why not upgrade to the latest version that does support VNX array ?

the customer did not buy the EMC powerpath licnese also I connected one of the SPA port on the new storage  to the server and I was able to see the lun's

THe Powerpath version is 5.2 (build 146)

WIll I have a problem if I leave the configuration as it is ?

you need to be at least on PowerPath 5.3 or higher. If you run "powermt display dev=all" , do you see VNX LUNs listed in the output ? Can you paste it here.

Is it ok if I remove the EMC powerpath and stay on MPIO or do I need to update EMC powerpath to 5,3

it's your (or your customer call). Right now you are running unsupported configuration because according to e-lab you need to be running PP 5.3 and higher. If your customer runs into any issues, EMC will refuse support until customer upgrades to supported version. MPIO is supported by EMC as well so if you want to go that route you can, you need to figure how to migrate from PowerPath to MPIO multipathing. If customer has paid for PowerPath license/support i would schedule a time and upgrade it, PowerPath is more sophisticated than MPIO when it comes to load-balancing and failover.
