NS80 to VNX LUN migration
Have an NS80 using Celerra Manager versus Unisphere. Recently purchased a VNX 5500, EMcopy works great for CIFS migration but not really sure what method to use for Block. Would really like to use the Push SAN COPY method versus Pull, doesn’t appear to be available in Celerra Manager though. Also concerned that the replicator temp license will not provide enough time to test prior to migration. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Is this FC enabled NS80 ?

What block protocol are you using on the NS80 ?
If its Celerra ISCSI via the data movers then you need to use client side migration.
Extending the Replicator license shouldn’t be a problem – just talk to your local EMC contacts

Hi KatnHat,
SAN Copy is great product and since you've purchased a new VNX just now, it is a part of the base software package and comes at no additional charge. I've used SAN Copy for 150+ TB block data migration from NS480 to VNX and VNX to VNX. Please note that the SAN Copy enabler should be installed by your EMC CE on the array. If not installed yet, you can contact them and get the enabler. However, it requires an SP reboot for installation. There is a detailed document explaining specific zoning convention to be followed while doing SAN Copy and also make sure that you have single initiator single target zones before you start working with SAN Copy to avoid array ports logging into other ports on the same array as initiators which is not what you need in your case.
In your case, you are trying to migrate data from NS-480 to VNX, which is the pull mode of SAN Copy and requires SAN Copy enabler installed only on the destination side. This comes with a restriction though, that it can only do "Full" copy, not any incremental data migrations. So, you will have to make sure that you stop host IO on NS480 LUN that you want to migrate and switch over the host to VNX, after the copy completes. I have succesfully migrated, VMware datastores and Windows NTFS file systems using SAN Copy Pull mode.

EMC does provide SAN Copy Enablers for migrations from older arrays to new VNX, but only depends on your account manager. This enabler can be installed on NS480 and the data can be migrated in push mode with all the bells and whistles

i am surprised you can't get to Navisphere on FC enabled NS80, was arp-proxy enabled ? Either way get an enabler from your SE and use it for block storage, for file you will need to use Replicator

EMC offers SAN Copy enablers for older arrays to migrate data to new VNX arrays at no cost, but only for temporary use. Discuss this with your accounts manager and he should suggest a way out. I never opted for the SANCopy enabler for the NS480, but when asked, our EMC accounts manager was ready to provide the enabler at zero cost temporary use basis. Don't hesitate to ask
