Clicking starts a Program Installation

For some reason, some actions now start a program (already installed and active) to install on my computer.  If I click and drag to copy or move a file, I get a popup box starting the installation of Roxio 7 (already installed, and it will work).  If I click on one icon on my desktop, I get a box starting the installation of Paperport 8 (also already installed).

I have run the diagnostics (F12 at startup), and didn't find any hardware problems.

I have Norton Anti Virus running.

I am using Windows XP with SP2 installed.

    Hi,

I think you need to run "The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility"

Read the information about it here, and there is a download link.
You may have to reinstall some of the programs, so install them to the same folders.

Thanks.  I will give that a try.

I just wanted to confirm that the Installer Cleanup fixed the problem.  I ran it and removed one program that I had the Install CD for and then re-installed that program, and it fixed the whole problem.

    Thanks.

I'm pleased you got it fixed :smileyhappy:

Just as some info, I think the request for an installation is if you delete MSI files in C:\WINDOWS\Installer

I used delete files in this folder because they were 'wasting space,' but then found out that some heavyweight programs were asking for the installer source (nnnooo!). So now I don't delete anything from there. I just set the folder's attributes to Compressed (haha).
