Go to Start - Run, and type
msconfig. Press
Enter. In the window that appears, go to the
Startup tab. Find the entry for
Support and uncheck the box to the left of it. Press
Apply and
OK, and restart the system when prompted. Thereafter, Dell Alerts will only run when you manually open it via the Programs listing. When you want to close it, right click on the Dell Alerts icon in the system tray by the clock, and select
Exit. The thing has never worked properly, but by disabling it from auto-starting, rather than uninstalling it, you can check back periodically, and see if it's gotten any better. (Don't hold your breath.)
I have a Dimension 2400. "Support" does not appear as a startup item.
Can anyone tell me how to uninstall the Dell Support Alerts?
It keeps appearing every day with the exact same alerts, and even though I uncheck the "notification" checkbox, it keeps unchecking it and turning it back on.
I am having problems uninstalling "Dell Support". The Remove-Programs feature of Control-Panel requests that I mount the Installation CD. It is apparently looking for the "Sherman.MSI" file. (?)
I possess and have mounted the following...
OPERATING SYSTEM Reinstallation CD
DRIVERS AND UTILITIES (Dell Dimension Resource CD)
APPLICATION (with "Dell Tools System Software")
None of these work. I've independently "explored" these CDs and cannot find "sherman". Am I missing a CD? Better yet --- is there an alternative technique for uninstalling "Dell Support". (this Alert feature causes my XP system to sporadically fail)
I'm not sure if this is the forum I'm to ask this but I keep getting the Alerts icon too and have up to 12 or 13 now. If I click on it, nothing happens. Is this to update my Dell? If so, how or where do I go to update it? I'm new and not very smart on computer stuff. Any help would be grateful. Thanks, Julie
