There could be a couple of reasons for this issue that you have above.

.1, Either the User name that you are logged in is not an admin's account
2. The Windows that you are working on is on a NTFS partition that will not allow you to access other folders since they would not have permissions , Dont worry, i will explain them to you.

When a windows XP is installed, there are 2 file systems that the windows can be installed on

1. FAT and NTFS. Usually when a Windwos is installed on NTFS, the issues like above arise.

Solutions:-

The first thing that we will have to here is to give permissions to the adminstrator to access the other accounts You will have to go to start and then the control panel . Check for a link that says " Switch to classic view and then look for folder options on the right hand side. Double click on that and then hit the VIEW tab that you have there. Look for the last option on that list and uncheck that , ( dont worry but uncheck the last thing that you have on that list )

ONce you do that , close all the windows and then get back to start and then my computer. Right click on the Local HDD drive C: and then hit the properties button. Check for a tab called security. Hit that and then look for the names that you have in that list, I am sure that adminstrator woudl not be one of them. Even if it is, dont worry .

HI tthe ADD button on the right hand side and then You will have a search button. Type in Adminstrator or the user name that you are logged into and then hit the search. Once you find that in the results,double click on that name and then you will observe that name woudl appear in the first list.

Hit the OK button and restart the computer, That should resolve the issue

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried your process but there was no tab called Security in the HDD properties. Thus - no further! Any other suggestions?

XP Pro is geared towards the business side of the equation (joining a Domain) so the security is a little more stringent than Home.  IN home, you can only share the D&S folders while in XP you can share any folder.

The big thing to do if you are running home is to make sure your drive is on an NTFS partition and not FAT32.
