I have an Inspiron 530 and do not like Vista at all. I would like to install Windows XP, and I have a copy of it and know how, i just would like to know if I install XP, will my recovery partition still work?

You will not have access to your Vista PCRestore via
F8 and the "Repair Your Computer" feature. This is because the Dell MBR will be rewritten by the XP install.
The RECOVERY partition will still be on your hard drive and you can run the Dell PCRestore via the Vista DVD that came with your system. I've performed this before and it works.

Alright, thanks both of you, going to go download the Audio drivers and start the process. One last thing, where it says "path=d:/windows;/d:/windows/system32 d: CD Tools PC Restore" The first line, is that all together and do I use the semi-colon?
Exactly as you see it... After EACH LINE press ENTER

Newbie to Vista, but love XP now compared to bottom of the barrel Vista. I have an ancient Inspiron 4150 notebook and was wondering if I could use that Windows XP CD to install on a new M1530. Or do I need to request/demand an XP copy from Dell. Thanks to all.
