How do I activate software?
My father bought a laptop from Dell in 2002. He never activated the software. He passed away in 2003. I would like to use his laptop, but the software and the key are lost. What can I do? I have the Dell order acknowledgement and the invoice number etc. for the purchase.

Activated what software? Windows is pre-activated. You just use it. If he had Office on it, then you might need the key, you'll find out when you go to use it. If it's Office 2002, you can't get a key. If it's Office 2000, you can call Dell for the key. Don't explain things, you have the order number, service tag. Just say you lost your key and need a new one.
