java?

Dimension 8200, xphome, BIOS A03, SP2, 768MB RDRAM, Pentium 4, 1.8GHz, 1702FP monitor, 64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200 card, NAV 2005, Toshiba PCX2000 Cable Modem, Linksys BEFW11S4 router.
How does one know if java is enabled on your browser?  I am trying to view a running  clock on a website.  I have been able to view it in the past but not lately, under it's help link it says make sure java is enabled.  Thank you

You can check it in the Advanced section of your Internet Options.

Thanks for the reply.  I don't  see the first entry (Java (Sun)) listed.  Use JRE 1.5.0_06 for (requires restart), also is not there.   JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled (requires restart) box is checked.  Is there something I have download to get this to show up in my settings?  Thanks

    Longback,

You only need one of those two entries checked. If you have Microsoft's Virtual Machine (the JIT compiler entry) you can verity this by going to Start|Run, entering cmd and clicking OK. At the command prompt enter jview and click . If VM is installed its status will be shown and the top line should indicate that you have version 5.00.3810.

Users who prefer Sun's Java Runtime Environment can download it from here.

    Thanks Denny,

I followed your instructions and version 5.00.3810. was there.  So I assume I don't have, or even need Sun's Java?  Thanks again

Depends on the site.  Functions on some sites work only with Sun Java so you can install it when you have a problem with their java applets then.

BTW, the Windows installations bundled on new Dell machines only come with Sun Java these days.
