multiple explorer windows although opposed settings in "folder options"

hey community!

Following issue is driving me crazy.

A couple of days ago i recognized that every folder opens themselve into a new explorer window.

So i took the chance and browsed the folder options and found the options "Open every folder into the same window" and "open every folder into a new window"

I don't know if this is the correct name of those options, because I got a german windows.

But I was wondering because the first option "open every folder into the same window" is selected. I double checked this and also tried to select the other option hit "ok" opened a couple folders into my windows explorer and reselected "open every folder into the same window" - but the behaviour remained the same.

I already tried a restart after I changed one of those settings, but this does not work too.

Does anyone of you got a clue why my explorer does not follows their settings?

Is there maybe a regedit entry I can set manually?

I'm running on a Win Vista Home Premium XPS M1530.
