I have trouble opening video files from my dvd. If i manage to play them it plays for a few seconds and then jerks. I have tried the dvd on my laptop and it works fine over there. At first i thought i might have got infected from something so i did the virus/spware/malware scans.. then i thought it could be coz of my low space.. i freed up some space and have abt 7 gb of free space on my c drive. It dooesnt seem to be a drive problem coz i can play normal dvds on my pc but juz can open video files. Hope someone can help me with this.
The link said /CurrentControlSet/ but cotton_candy mentioned /CurrentControlSet001/. I didnt notice this only after following the link and now i cannot read any media(cd/dvd) on my drive. I havent deleted those 2 files on /CurrentControlSet001/ yet.. So what should i do now?
restart system, go to system setup by pressing F2 on the Dell logo
when youre there. turn On CAPS LOCK NUM LOCK and SCROLL LOCK
when all of it is turned on
hold down on the ALT button on your keyboard
Press F then let go ( you should hear a beep)
Press E then let go (same)
Press B
if it still does not work, reseat data and power cable.
(this if the drive is not being detected)
i've been doing the clearing of filters using the CurrentControlSet001 before and it worked. but microsoft says its CurrentControlSet so who knows better than them. You could try it.
Thanks alot for replying.. i kinda got impatient and couldnt wait for a reply..so i reinstalled Roxio Easy cd and things are fine now..but i still can't play that dvd(video files) So should i clear the NAVRAM or try deleting the files on /CurrentControlSet01/ ??

try clearing upper and lower filters
that usually works for this type of problem
procedure
click start
go to run
type regedit then click ok
once you have the registry editor window look on the left side
look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (expand)
look for SYSTEM (expand)
look for CurrentControlSet001 (expand)
look for Control (expand)
look for Class (expand)
look for this folder {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
and click on it
now look on the right side look for upperfilters and lowerfilters
delete them both if you have them
to delete just rightclick and choose delete. then hit yes
after deleting them, close registry editor and restart system
GoodLUCK
